Doug for Kings North
About Me – Doug Hickman
Hello, folks – thank you for visiting my website!
My name is Doug Hickman – and I am your Candidate for the Green Party of Nova Scotia (GPNS) for Kings North in the next provincial election (which by law must be no later than June 2022).
I would like to invite you to take a minute or two to browse my site and find out a bit more about me and why I have decided to offer.
Doug developed the recycling and composting system in Kings County and across Nova Scotia. He also developed the e-waste recycling system in Nova Scotia and across Canada.
My Family and I in Kings North
My wife, Pam, and I have lived in Kings North since 1992. We have 3 daughters who all graduated from Glooscap Elementary and Northeast Kings Educational Centre.
We have run our own business since 1992. I run a consulting business that creates local economic development opportunities and provides solutions to environmental problems here in Nova Scotia and internationally – my work has been cited as a “global good practice”.
I have participated in the community as a volunteer or member with Apple Tree Landing Children’s Centre, Canning and Area Development Association, Canning and District Volunteer Fire Department, Fieldwood Heritage Society (Member, Board of Directors), Valley Gardener’s Club and Healthy Forest Coalition. I have been a Director with Horton Ridge Malt and Grain. I ran my first marathon when I was 50 – and have covered a lot of kilometres since!
Pam is a nationally-recognized author and editor of books for kids and young adults on Canadian history and natural history – books that have won awards in Canada and elsewhere.
What about you and your family? Take a moment to contact me and tell me what’s important to you – and I will respond. Use the form below, or call me at 902.300.8085, and follow me on social media.

Why I’m Offering as Green Party of Nova Scotia (GPNS) In Kings North
I am offering because I can deliver the new thinking and the new solutions that we need to make life better now and in the future – for us and for our children in Kings North and in Nova Scotia.
- Climate change solutions that create jobs
- Economic solutions that create prosperity while at the same time restoring our environment and ending environmental racism
- Health care solutions that ensure people get the care they need when they need it
- Social justice solutions that ensure that residents of long term care facilities can live with the dignity they deserve
- Democracy that works for everyone, every day.
These things will only happen with a new politics.
I want to be the face of that politics for Kings North.
Doug has led local economic development initiatives that protect the environment while also creating many thousands of jobs in Nova Scotia, across Canada and around the world.
A Word About Voting
Democracy is a fragile thing. You may feel your single vote among thousands does not count for much – but it is yours, and within it lie the rights and freedoms at the heart of our society. Take pride in your vote.
Some folks like to talk about “strategic voting” and worry about whether their vote will be “wasted” if they vote in a particular way. But here’s the thing:
The other parties have been around for decades and have taken turns governing the province. The results include:
- Communities with poverty rates among the highest in Canada;
- A lack – even absence – of investment in the internet and green infrastructure that our future prosperity will depend on;
- The squandering of our resources at the altar of corporate interests.
We cannot solve problems with the same thinking that created them. The one thing we can all be certain of is if the other guys continue to govern we will have more of the same.
Stupidity, it has been said, is doing the same thing over again and expecting a different outcome. So what does it mean if you want a better Nova Scotia, but you vote for the same-old-same old?
Vote for a better Kings North and a better Nova Scotia.
Vote for better.
Vote for Doug Hickman, Green Party of Nova Scotia!
